Youth Rowing - Spring 2024

We are very excited to return to the water this spring! LHRC seeks to introduce all of Litchfield County to the joy of sweep rowing and sculling. Our youth primarily race across the Northeast (expected for Varsity and Novice rowers), and we may earn the right to race in Sarasota, FL.

Youth practice starts Wednesday, March 6th, 2024. 8th grade practice starts Monday, March 18th, 2024. Development program practice starts Tuesday, May 7th, 2024.

  • Youth (Varsity*/Novice): Athletes in high school (9th to 12th grade). All experience levels, including new rowers (Novice is the rowing term for athletes in their first year of racing). We practice 6 days a week, M-F 3:45-6:00pm and Saturday 9-11:30am. Athletes are expected at each regatta. Athlete may earn the chance to race at the USRowing Youth National Championship. Regatta fees are not included in program price.

    *Reminder! Rowing is a Varsity sport for Wamogo, Litchfield High School, & Forman School. All athletes from these schools are eligible to earn a Varsity letter and honors at their school.

  • Youth Learn-to-Row Program: A one-week program ideal for the high school athlete who wants to give rowing a try before committing to a full season.

  • 8th Grade Racing Team: Athletes in 8th grade who have completed Development/ Learn-to-Row, or have coach approval. We practice 5 days a week, M/W/Th/F 3:45-6:00pm & Saturday 9-11:30am. Athletes are expected to race at our Bantam Lake scrimmages. Athletes may earn to chance to race at the USRowing Northeast Regional Championship and USRowing Youth National Championship. Regatta fees are not included in program price.

  • Development Program: Athletes in 6th-7th grades. Practice will teach athletes about rowing, along with fun activities to promote team building, personal affirmation, and social and emotional learning. Dev is a fun, challenging program to introduce our future champions to rowing. We practice 2 days a week, T/Th 4:-5:30pm.

  • April 28: Cooper Cup (Camden, NJ) [Youth]

  • TBD: Augustine Scrimmage (Bantam Lake, CT) [Youth & 8th Grade]

  • May 5: Founder’s Day Regatta (Lake Warmaug, CT) [Youth]

  • May 11: Rumsey Scrimmage (Bantam Lake, CT) [Freshmen & 8th Grade]

  • May 17-19: USRowing Northeast Championship (Lowell, MA) [Youth & Select 8th Grade]

  • June 5-9: USRowing Youth National Championship (Sarasota, FL) *In order to row at Nats, you need to earn a spot at NE Champs.

Spring Training

All athletes need to attend practice prepared to be athletes, athletic attire that is not loose or baggy, plenty of layers for the spring weather, a bag containing clothes for after practice we are a water sport you will get wet in various ways. A snack for after practice, hat, sunglasses, sunblock, and at least 1 liter of water in a water bottle covered by a sock. LHRC does not have running water.
